The Need
Each day, an estimated tens of thousands of dogs and cats are born in the United States, resulting in tens of millions of animals born annually.
Humans have been entrusted to care for their domesticated friends, but sadly, there are not enough loving homes available for every animal born. Animal overpopulation and overcrowding are the result.
A single litter of dogs and their offspring can result in over 60,000 animals born over a 6-year time span. For cats, that number is just below 400,000. Most pet parents are not able to address the needs of the 4-8 puppies and 3-6 kittens born into each new household litter.
Ten to twelve million dogs and cats will die—in the wild, or in shelters by euthanization—each year.
The Solution
Spaying and neutering is the surgical removal of the reproductive organs in female and male animals, respectively. It helps reduce the number of generational dogs and cats at risk while bestowing additional benefits for your pet, including:
♣ Prevention of reproductive cancers (uterine, ovarian, testicular)
♣ Reduced risk of breast tumors and prostate problems
♣ Improved behavioral and emotional health
The procedure is performed safely by a trained veterinarian, takes between 2-90 minutes*, and has been a routine part of responsible pet ownership for over 50 years.

What to Expect after the Procedure
The following are expected in some patients after surgery. These conditions should be monitored closely but generally do not need to be evaluated by a veterinarian:
♣ Mild redness, bruising, or swelling around the incision, which should resolve in 5-7 days
♣ Mild redness or irritation of the shaved skin, commonly caused by pre-surgical shaving and should resolve in 3-5 days
♣ A small, firm bump under the incision that is not red, painful, or warm to the touch, often due to a minor reaction to the stitches; it should resolve in 7-14 days as the stitches dissolve
♣ Delayed defecation for 24 hrs
